Finding a house sit can be hard work if you don’t know where to look. Luckily, there are a lot of house sitting websites out there to help you with your search. This article is everything you need to know about the different websites for house sitting so you can find the one that best fits your needs and can help you find the house sit of your dreams.
Criteria for House Sitting Websites
Here’s what we’ll be looking for from each of the platforms:
Usability and User Interface
Just how easy is it to find a suitable house sit or house sitter? Is it possible to narrow your search and create alerts for when new house sits become available? How easy is it to filter for what you’re looking for? Does the website look nice? Are there any provided materials to help the homeowner and the house sitter make the transition easier?
Reach and Availability
Are there a lot of house sits available? Is it country-specific or international? How large is the user base? Do new house sits become available regularly? Are there house sits of different lengths?
Safety
Do they require background checks? What sort of documents do people on the different house sitting websites need to provide to create a profile? These websites are about meeting strangers on the internet, after all.

Trusted Housesitters
First up, TrustedHousesitters. This platform, founded in 2010, is a pioneer in the house sitting community, connecting homeowners with reliable house and pet sitters on a global scale. This is the platform we’ve personally used to find house sits over the past four years.
Usability and User Interface
The user interface is easy to navigate to find house sits all over the globe. There is also a frequently updated community forum that will answer almost any question house sitters may have. Trusted Housesitters also makes any platform change announcements in the forums as well. They are very transparent about any changes they make to their platform, and they’re usually for the better.
The one knock against Trusted Housesitters is that it is one of the most expensive house sitting websites out there. They also charge homeowners to list their homes, something other platforms do not.
The Basic plan for sitters is $139/year, $179 for the Standard plan, and the Premium plan is $279. For the homeowners, it’s $149 for the Basic plan, $219 for the Standard plan, and $289 for the Premium. There’s also a combo plan for the homeowner who wants house sit as well, which is $209 for the Basic, $249 for the Standard, and $349 for the Premium.
Reach and Availability
The membership may sound quite expensive, because it is. But, when you compare even the most expensive premium plans against the cost of even one night in a hotel room or Airbnb, the annual membership is a steal. Plus, the expensive membership is actually a good thing!
The more expensive the membership, the more exclusive the clientele. The properties available on Trusted Housesitters are stunning and located in major cities. There are unbelievable house sits available through Trusted Housesitters at absolutely gorgeous homes. The quality of the homes you can find on Trusted Housesitters is mind blowing.
Safety
The basic plan lets you apply for house sits or create a listing for your house, but that’s about it. Trusted Housesitters’ standard and premium plans include accident and third-party liability insurance, while other house sitting websites do not.
THS membership also includes a third-party background check for the homeowner and the house sitter. The price of the background check is included in your membership. This definitely helps put everyone more at ease when it comes to meeting strangers on the internet.
Mind My House
Usability and User Interface
Mind My House started in the UK in 2005 and has been bringing homeowners and house sitters together ever since. There is a large user base and house sits are available all over the world. They have an easy-to-use world map that displays all the available house sits.
Reach and Availability
Mind My House is free to join for homeowners and only 29 USD per year for house sitters. They also offer a dual house sitter and homeowner membership that is also 29 USD. A quick look at the world map on their website shows that there are roughly 300 house sits available worldwide at any one time.
Mind My House makes it clear that they are just bringing homeowners and house sitters together, and that the two parties should create a contractual agreement between themselves. Luckily, Mind My House provides a very long and very detailed contract on their website. The contract also works as a welcome guide for the house sitter and as a checklist of things to look and check for before accepting and starting a house sit. It’s actually quite impressive, and it’s free!
Safety
Mind My House encourages house sitters to get police background checks to show homeowners and provide links to help you get started, but you have to pay for the background check yourself.
Mind My House also has a private messaging system to help house sitters and homeowners connect.
The website has an extensive FAQ section that covers almost any question anyone could possibly have about house sitting.
Overall, Mind My House is a pretty impressive house sitting website for only 29 USD a year!
Nomador
Usability and User Interface
Next up is Nomador. Nomador is more similar to Trusted Housesitters than Housecarers, and has the price tag to prove it! Nomador’s rates are the same for house sitters and homeowners, $99/year for their basic plan, $159/year for the standard plan, and $199 for their premium plan. It looks like they don’t offer a combo plan in the same way that THS does.
You can see the available house sits without creating an account if you click around on the website. But to see more than just the basic information about potential house sits, you’ll have to register. And, of course, if you want to apply for any of the house sits, you’ll have to pay.’
Reach and Availability
Nomador has a unique feature that doesn’t appear to be on other house sitting platforms. There are some homeowners who offer to host a traveler for a night, kind of like Couchsurfing, which is a cool feature that could be helpful in a pinch. However, it looks like those Couchsurfing-like offers also count towards the overall numbers that appear on the world map, so there might not be as many actual house sits available as the numbers would lead you to believe.
Safety
Homeowners and house sitters are asked to submit identifying documents like driver’s licenses or passports to add to their “Trust Index”. The more identifying documents you provide, the better your chances of landing a house sit. Nomador has an internal messaging system so you don’t have to use your personal email and can keep your personal information secure as you communicate with the homeowner or house sitter.
Nomador provides free resources on their website to help out house sitters and homeowners. Resources like a Home-Book for the homeowner to fill out to provide the house sitter with all of the pertinent information about the animals, the home, and the neighborhood. They also provide an inventory list so the homeowners can make sure that their stuff is in good condition before and after the sit. Nomador also provides a basic house sitting contract for the homeowner and house sitter to sign to make the agreement formally legal.
HouseCarers
The next house sitting website is Housecarers.
Usability and User Interface
At first blush, the interface is not as easy to use as Trusted Housesitters, but you can still find all the same options for narrowing your search by dates, house sit length, and different locations.
On Housecarers, homeowners do not need to pay an annual fee to list their homes. However, there is an option to pay 25 USD to get a premium homeowner profile. That adds some promotional perks to your profile to make it easier for the homeowner to find house sitters. And you get a verified supporter badge on your profile. Nifty!
Reach and Availability
For the house sitters, browsing and setting alerts are free, and homeowners can contact you directly if they so desire. But to actively apply for house sits, you’ll have to pay an annual 50 USD membership. Then you can set up your profile and add verifications and references so that you can start landing house sits.
Checking the available house sits is easy and free for anyone who wants to take a look. There are roughly 100 house sits available at any one time.
Safety
Housecarers asks for a few pieces of identifying information from their members. Things like driver’s licenses, passports, and cell phone numbers all add to your verification points. The more verification points you have, the more trustworthy your profile is, and that makes it easier to find house sits. Homeowners and house sitters can also leave each other reviews after the completion of a sit.
The website is certainly not as flashy as Trusted Housesitters, but it is a cheaper option. And the service has been around since the year 2000, so they must be doing something right!

Usability and User Interface
These five house sitting websites all look very similar and operate pretty much exactly the same. You can do all of the normal things you would expect from a house sitting platform: search for house sits, narrow your search, and look at photos of the home and pets.
Something that sets these platforms apart from the other more international ones is that they do not explicitly discourage accepting payment for house sitting services. Getting paid to house sit outside of your home country is typically illegal because of taxes. The international house sitting websites usually explicitly state this in their FAQs.
But because these five platforms are country-specific, they allow and display paid house sitting and pet sitting listings on their platforms. There are, of course, nonpaid house sitting options available, but it is interesting to see paid gigs alongside nonpaid ones on a house sitting website.
Of course, be sure to look into the legality of getting paid if you are not a resident of the country where you will be house sitting. Typically, it is illegal to earn money “working” in a country if you are there on a tourist visa.
Reach and Availability
The house sit availability varies from country to country. The USA has the lowest available house sits with around 170 available at any one time, Canada has around 200, the UK about 450, New Zealand has around 1,100, while Australia has by far the most with around 2,800.
Like Housecarers, all of these platforms are free for homeowners to use and promote their house sits on. Potential house sitters have to pay an annual fee that is around 50 USD in the local currency.
Safety
All of the websites offer ID verification through a third-party company that gets you a verified ID badge on your profile. The ID verification is not mandatory but it does make your profile look better as you apply for house sits. Only the main applicant on the profile needs to file for the background check. So if you are house sitting with a partner or your family, only one person has to get checked. The background check costs around $5.
Housesit Match
Usability and User Interface
Housesit Match is a UK-based website for house sitting that has an international reach, though a cursory search of their available house sits shows they are mostly available in the UK and Europe.
Navigating to find house sits is relatively easy, you can narrow your search through keywords and destinations and see the house sits listed by the date added to the platform. There is also an option to see only the house sits that are currently available.
Reach and Availability
There is an annual fee for both the homeowner and the house sitter, 69£ (about 85USD) for the standard membership, and 89£ (about 110USD) for the premium. Both levels let you list your house or apply for house sits, but if you want to both list your house and be a house sitter, you’ll have to create and pay for two different memberships. Paying for a premium membership gives you a few more perks and your profile will appear higher on the list than standard members.
Their user base does not seem to be that large. There are only around 20 house sits available at any one time.
Safety
Housesit Match ID checks all of their members when they register with the platform through a third-party partner, the price of which is included in the membership fee. They also offer an option after you’ve registered to get a police background check that the member will have to pay for. It costs 33£ for UK residents, and the cost varies for other nationalities. The background check will help your profile look more trustworthy to potential homeowners.
Luxury Housesitting
Usability and User Interface
Luxury Housesitting is a platform that allows homeowners to list their properties for free and only costs potential house sitters 25USD a year.
The user interface looks and feels pretty dated and the few house sits that exist are listed in a way that doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Reach and Availability
When you first get to the website you’ll see a picture of the world that looks like it is absolutely covered in house sits! But in reality, it’s just a picture. When you actually look at the actual available house sits, there are less than 20 out there.
Safety
Luxury Housesitting does not perform background checks on its members, nor does it help in any way to create a contractual agreement between the homeowner and the housesitter.
Compared to the other house sitting websites out there, this one is severely lacking in almost every way. You can get a lot more for 25 USD from the other sites.
Caretaker Gazette BONUS!
Caretaker Gazette is very different from the rest of the other house sitting websites. First and foremost, it’s been around since 1983! Second, you have to pay to see any of the up-to-date listings, though the price isn’t that high, 30 USD a year for the online edition, or 35 USD for an actual physical copy that gets delivered to your house! What year is it? Listings are updated every two months.
The website has listings dating all the way back to 2007 if you’d like to check them out, though I doubt the jobs from George W Bush’s second term are still open. There are job listings all over the world, across the US, and from New Zealand to Norway.
Caretaker Gazette is more about listing caretaker jobs than it is about house sitting. Some of the listings are for taking care of remote places on islands or in northern wilderness and advertise that they are paid positions, while others are more straightforward house sitting options. It’s definitely different and worth checking out if you’re looking for something longer or more adventurous than just watching pets.
Our Top Pick
When it comes to ease of using the platform, the number of available house sits on a global scale, and safety features, Trusted Housesitters is without a doubt our favorite house sitting platform out there.
If you’re serious about getting started with house sitting, Trusted Housesitters is our top recommendation for both house sitters and homeowners.
