It is quick and easy to get a Vietnam Visa in Phnom Penh. Here are three ways to do it:

Check the latest prices for taking a flight or a bus from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City.

1) Get your Vietnam Visa-On-Arrival or E-visa

Some nationalities are eligible for a Vietnam visa-on-arrival if flying into certain airports in Vietnam. You will need to fill out paperwork online ahead of time, but the processing time for getting a Vietnam visa-on-arrival is only 3 hours. You’ll have the option to get a single-entry 1-month visa-on-arrival or 3-month multiple entry visa-on-arrival. Read more about how to get a Vietnam Visa-On-Arrival online here.

You can apply for a visa-on-arrival or an e-visa through iVisa. We have used them in the past and have found the process to be easy, professional, and hassle-free.

2) Get your Vietnam Visa at the Vietnam Embassy in Phnom Penh

We’ve read a lot of negative reviews online about getting your visa at the Vietnam Embassy, but we gave it a shot anyway. Turns out it couldn’t have been easier and we definitely recommend it!

According to a reader, as of December 2022, the Vietnam embassy in Phnom Penh will not process a 30-day tourist visa. They tell you to apply using the eVisa service. For that allow at least 3 working days.

Bonus: the Embassy is 5 minutes from the Russian Market neighborhood by tuk-tuk, which gives you a great excuse to go shopping at the market or try some of the best restaurants in Phnom Penh!

Vietnam Embassy Location: #436 Preah Monivong Blvd (Street 93), Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Hours: 8:30 AM-11:30 AM and 2:30 PM-5 PM

Contact: (+855) 23-726-274 or 023-726-274 if calling within Cambodia.

Website: Vietnam Embassy Phnom Penh

What you will need to bring:

  • Passport with 6 months validity
  • One 4×6 size passport picture
  • Cash
  • An address for where you will stay in Vietnam (We Googled a random guesthouse in Saigon and wrote that address in)

Application forms are available inside the Vietnam Embassy and take about 5-10 minutes to fill out.

Be sure to check your visa before leaving the Vietnam Embassy to ensure that you received what you requested. If you want to keep your receipt you may need to ask for it.

Tourist Visa Costs at the Vietnam Embassy in Phnom Penh as of March 2019

Here is some information for those considering getting a Vietnam visa in battambang

Arrived at the Vietnamese Consulate in Battambang at 8:00am on Thursday 02Jan2019. Applied for 3 month single entry tourist visa. Application process was fast and simple. All you need is a passport photo. Paid USD50 per visa and were told to come back Monday 06Jan2019 between 8:00 and 11:00 am. There was no option for faster processing. Arrived 8:00am sharp on 06Jan2019 and were on the road with our visas 5 min later.

Something you could add is that the Viet. embassy is accessible by city bus so I won’t have much problem getting there, and the price is only 1,500 Riel (under 50 cents USD).

What I would like to know is whether the 3 month/multi entry tourist visa is good for land crossings (from Cambodia)?

Thank you for adding this useful information!

It’s our understanding that you can use the 3-month multiple-entry tourist visa for land crossings, however, this is a good question to ask at the Vietnam Embassy to double-check the current rules.

Your blog is a ‘life saver ‘ for all I know. It is precise and goes straight to the point. I am sick and currently living in a Pagoda in the heart of Phnom Penh, taking treatment from the resident monk. I do not want to leave out Vietnam before returning to Bangkok. And without reading your blog I would have ended up at the Vietnamese border. Thank you.

Great info, thanks for posting. We used LMN Travel on Sisowath Quay for our visa, as we realised our onward travel plans meant we’d exceed the 15 day no visa requirement.
Owner was so helpful in getting our visas the next and no problems at the Cambodia Vietnam road border.

Careful with visa on arrival through border for US travelers. I got one from a travel agent in Phnom Pehn and the border agents hassled be about everything. After over half an hour of hassling they wanted 100 bucks! I ended skipping Vietnam.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and sorry you ended up skipping your trip to Vietnam! Getting a Visa for Vietnam at the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh is pretty quick and straight forward. That will definitely be easier than hassling with the Vietnam border agents, who may try and scam for a quick buck.

Thanks very much! We are headed over in January and I have been looking and looking at how to get a visa to enter Vietnam from Cambodia and its been a very frustrating and confusing time. We are only in PP for a couple of days but we will head straight to the Vietnamese embassy as soon as we can and get the visa sorted! Seems its much cheaper and easier to get it there than from Australia. Get info and thanks!

Hi, I know Vietnam has changed the visas and $ for US citizens, I believe to 1 year multiple entry for almost $200. I’m looking at traveling to Vietnam from PP in November, can I still get a 30 day visa in PP to enter Vietnam (by flight)? If these are still being processed I believe it would be much, much cheaper. Thanks in advance!

      Hi Maura,
You should still be able to get a 30 day visa in PP to fly into Vietnam. We haven’t heard of any changes for doing that as of now. Hope you have a great trip!! Jen

I’d be wary of the embassy in Battambang. Tried to claim visas are more expensive than they should be. $50 for a single entry (normal processing time) Definitely wasn’t miscommunication either, they spoke fine English. It’s a very quiet embassy, probably thought it was an easy way to make a quick buck…we just left after questioning it. Will get it in Phnom Penh.

A friend of mine flew to Saigon with an overnight layover last month, and was surprised that U.S. passport holders could not get a visa on arrival. He had to spend the night in the terminal.

I flew through Vietnam last month as well, but only with a two hour layover on my way to Paris. I’m hoping to check out Vietnam later this year, and will probably get my visa at the embassy. Much quicker that way, if you have access to an embassy.

It’s confusing which countries get what! Everything I wrote is what was posted at the embassy. They didn’t allow pictures inside, so I stood awkwardly by the drop-off window scribbling it all into my notebook 🙂
