Why Travel in India?
India is like no where else in the world. It is intense, exhilarating, shocking, beautiful, spiritual, inspiring, and sometimes overwhelming. It is said that a person will either love or hate India, but it will change you regardless.
You would probably need many lifetimes to see it all. From the mountainous northern states bordering Nepal and China, to the Thar dessert in Rajasthan, stunning beaches along the west coast in Goa, and the breathtaking backwaters of Kerala, each state and region is eclectic enough to be it’s own country. With over 100 languages spoken within the country and thousands of years of history, India is a complex place to understand. There are so many places to go and every region varies in it’s cuisine, climate, geography, dress, culture and traditions.
Being in India keeps you in the present, mainly because you have to stay aware of your surroundings to avoid stepping in cow poop. People have a very “live and let live” attitude to life, and what at first seems bizarre begins to seem normal, like swerving between cows on the roads, and being too close to monkeys for comfort. With a population of over 1.2 billion people existing in a space about 1/3 the size of the USA, it’s crowded to say the least. However, with so many unique places to explore it’s easy to get off the beaten path, meet amazing people and find a space and experience that’s all your own.
The most important part of traveling in India is to embrace it with an open heart and an open mind. Instead of trying to rationalize the way things are there, approach India from a place of curiosity and interest. Let it expand, maybe even shatter your world view. If you do this, you will have an unforgettable experience that is sure to affect you at your core.
